Arsenal vs Chelsea : Preview.

This will be the first time that Chelsea have faced Arsenal this season and after such a strong start to the campaign they will be confident of beating their city rivals. It is a constant debate whether or not Arsenal are strong enough to win the league at this present time but a win against Chelsea this Sunday might just convince their critics that they can in fact go all the way.

This week Arsene Wenger has stated to his Arsenal players that this match against Chelsea is the time for them to stand up and show that they are a title winning side. If they do not step up to the plate and see off Chelsea here then their title ambitions for this season may already be over before we even reach the halfway stage.

As it stands Arsenal are currently eight points behind Chelsea in the table and a defeat to the Blues here will see them fall eleven points behind. With the form that Chelsea have been showing of late, despite having a game in hand, an eleven point gap sounds almost too much for Arsenal to come back from. However a win for the Gunners will put them right back in the title hunt and may give Chelsea a thing or two to think about for the rest of the season.

Arsenal’s task won’t be easy thanks to injuries to the likes of Robin van Persie, Kieran Gibbs and Abou Diaby recently. The loss of Van Persie was particularly notable last week against Sunderland and with Eduardo and Carlos Vela the only fit recognised strikers that Arsenal have they may struggle to break through a strong Chelsea defensive system. The loss of Kieran Gibbs is also crucial as with Gael Clichy already sidelined a lot of pressure will be put on the shoulders of Armand Traore to step in and do well.

While Arsenal have something of an injury crisis going on the same thing cannot be said for Chelsea. Carlo Ancelotti will have practically a full strength side to choose from barring Jose Bosingwa who is currently the only Chelsea player confined to the medical room.

With the Emirates crowd behind them i am leaning towards Arsenal to come away with the three points here. However, if Arsenal are to beat Chelsea then the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song and Andrey Arshavin will have to be at the top of their game as Chelsea have the players in midfield capable of completely bossing a game. I shall go for Arsenal 2 – Chelsea 1.
