Arsenal vs Tottenham : Preview.
The North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham is a match that rarely fails to deliver on excitement and entertainment levels and with the way both sides have been playing thus far i don’t expect that to change this Saturday. Arsenal and Tottenham are two of the most attacking sides in the Premier League so this match has promise of delivering a few goals.
In recent times it is Arsenal who have had a monopoly on the bragging rights over Tottenham having not lost to their fiercest rivals in the league for an amazing ten years! If Tottenham are serious about breaking into the top four this season and pushing Arsenal out then that record will have to come to an end. These are the type of matches that top four sides have to win.
At this moment in time Tottenham are currently level on points with Arsenal in the league table although Arsenal do have a game in hand. A defeat to Arsenal here could potentially see them fall six points behind their rivals in the standings so this match is something of a six pointer for Tottenham if not Arsenal.
Last weekend both clubs suffered a bit of a stutter with Arsenal blowing a two goal lead against West Ham to come away with only a point while Tottenham lost at home to the resilient Stoke. Both sides will want to get back to winning ways so if securing victory over your fierce rivals isn’t enough incentive to go out and win the game for either side then bouncing back from poor results will be.
Tottenham have a few injury concerns ahead of the short trip to Arsenal with Aaron Lennon almost certain to miss out with an ankle problem. This means that David Bentley will be in line for a rare start should the tiny winger not make it. The fitness of the ever injured Jonathan Woodgate is another concern for Harry Redknapp after he suffered a head injury in last weeks defeat to Stoke. He will be assessed closer to the kick off.
As for Arsenal the main selection problem facing Arsene Wenger is that of the goalkeeper. Lukas Fabianski made his return during the week only to get injured again. So the Arsenal gaffer has to decide whether to repeat his faith in the young Vito Mannone or put in the fit again Manuel Almunia. Samir Nasri, Nicklas Bendtner and Eduardo are also pushing for starting berths after impressing in their returns to the side during the week.
