Arsenal vs West Ham United : Preview.

With the top two not playing until Sunday there is a chance for Arsenal to go top of the league for a day at least should they defeat West Ham United at the Emirates this Saturday. Their home form has been impeccable this season so Arsenal will be confident of securing the three points however West Ham will still be a danger as they are fighting a battle of their own albeit at the opposite end of the table.

As the season begins to draw to a close the pressure is starting to mount on the teams pushing at the top and Arsenal, although they have had a couple of shaky moments of late, are continuing to prove their critics wrong.

Last week at Hull they left it late but Arsenal got the valuable three points that they needed in a game which last season perhaps they would have lost. That is the difference between this seasons Arsenal squad and lasts, the ability to sneak those vital wins when they perhaps looked out of it.

A few weeks ago West Ham were beginning to look like they were going to steer clear of the relegation battle, however, three defeats on the trot has sucked them right back into it and the Hammers now sit just three points off the drop zone.

Three points or even a point against Arsenal will be seen as a massive bonus for West Ham especially away from home as they have only won once on the road so far this season. That won’t stop them from giving a Arsenal a good run for their money however and after a few controversial selection choices recently West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola is expected to field his strongest side.

An added boost for Arsenal and an added blow for West Ham will be the return of Cesc Fabregas as he resumed training this week after recovering from a hamstring injury. Arsenal will also welcome back Alex Song from suspension while Tomas Rosicky could also return to face West Ham after recovering from a groin injury.

As for West Ham they could welcome back Herita Ilunga and Mark Noble to the starting line up after the pair returned to training this week although they are still a doubt and will undergo a late fitness to determine whether or not they are fit enough to face Arsenal.
