After their 9-1 thrashing of Wigan last weekend Tottenham will understandably head to Aston Villa this week buzzing with confidence. While i am sure that Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neil will play down any impact that the Tottenham result last week may have on his side going into this match surely he has to have had at least one sleepless night this week knowing that he has to face this smarting Spurs team.

It may be stating the obvious but the main thing that Tottenham will have to deal with for their trip to Aston Villa is complacency. While last weekends result was nothing short of astounding, Harry Redknapp will be drumming it into his players that they cannot ease off and will have to be at the top of their game if they are to beat Aston Villa this Saturday.

While Tottenham enjoyed goals galore last week Aston Villa found themselves scrapping for a draw away to Burnley. Emile Heskey’s late goal secured Villa a point but Martin O’Neil will be looking for his side to up their performance against Tottenham this week because if they don’t, judging by the difference in the two teams performances last week, they may find themselves on the end of a Spurs pumping themselves.

As it stands Aston Villa are currently three points behind fourth placed Tottenham in fifth place so this really is a six pointer. A win for Aston Villa will put them level with Tottenham however a defeat will see them fall six points behind and put a serious dent in their top four ambitions.

Aston Villa summer signing Stewart Downing could be in line to make his first appearance for the club after recovering from injury and putting in a performance for the reserves in midweek. James Collins may also face Tottenham should he pass his late fitness test.

Barring long-term absentee Luka Modric due to a broken leg Tottenham have pretty much a full strength squad to chose from. That is of course with the exception of Ledley King as no-one ever knows whether he is fit or not.
