Besiktas vs Manchester United : Preview

The Champions League is back and for their opening match Manchester United travel to Turkey to take on Besiktas in a tough away fixture.

Besiktas have never gotten past the the group stages of the Champions League so they will be hoping for a good start against Manchester United but last seasons finalists have been in good form of late and will be up for the challenge when they travel to Turkey.

Wayne Rooney will undoubtedly be the main threat to Beskitas and he will have to be watched carefully but Man Utd don’t have a good record in Turkey and have won just one of their four Champions League outings there which came way back in 1996 thanks to goals from Eric Cantona and David Beckham.

Turkey has always been a tough destination to go to and get a result and the fans are well renowned for creating a hostile atmosphere so Besiktas do have a chance of winning this one, but, based on recent form and the quality of the two squads Manchester United have to be fancied for the first vital three points of the Champions League 2009.
