Burnley vs Wigan : Preview

Burnley and Wigan are possibly the two most inconsistent teams in the Premier League so far this season. At home Burnley have a 100% record of four wins out of four but have also lost 100% of their games on the road losing five out of five. On the other hand we have Wigan who have beaten teams like Chelsea and Aston Villa, drawn with Man City but have lost to the likes of Hull and Wolves.

The advantage is definitely with Burnley for this one. While we never know which Wigan side is going to turn up on the day, one thing we do know about Burnley is that when they are playing at home they are going to put in a performance. For that reason alone i find it hard to see anything beyond a win for Burnley.

Taking a look at the way both Burnley and Wigan play and the styles and philosophies which both managers adopt this match has the potential to be a real thriller with bags of goals. However history will tell us that this fixture never quite seems to deliver on its promise with three out of the last five meetings between Burnley and Wigan ending goalless.

A new season, a new era though and with Owen Coyle and Roberto Martinez in charge of who takes to the field… expect goals!
