Tommy Burns Tribute

May 15th, 2008

Celtic legend Tommy Burns has died today at the age of just 51. As a Celtic fan i find it hard to put into words just how much Tommy meant to the fans but he was a great man and a great player. Although i never actually knew him personally somehow i felt connected to him as did the rest of the Celtic fans the world over. Tommy was a man of the people, he served the club with incredible loyalty as a player, a manager, a coach and a fan, he was one of us and we will all miss him dearly. The world will be a darker place without Tommy but although the world seems so dark today, the star’s will be brighter tonight. All my thoughts go out to Tommy’s family and everyone who cared for him. May you rest in peace Tommy. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Celtic have posted a video tribute to Tommy on their website, you can check it out here.

Neil Lennon Takes Up Coaching Role At Celtic

April 3rd, 2008

Celtic have added Neil Lennon to the coaching staff at Parkhead and will be in the dug out against Motherwell on Saturday in the SPL.

Lennon first arrived at the Glasgow club from Leicester City in December 2000 when Martin O’Neil payed £5.75M for him, a spell which saw him win 5 Premier League titles, 4 Scottish Cups and 2 CIS League Cups.

Lennon left Celtic Park in the summer of last year and has since had playing spells with Nottingham Forrest and Wycombe.

Lennon said: “I am overwhelmed at being offered this chance to return to Celtic, a place where everyone knows my heart lies,” Lennon said.

“Returning to Celtic and being part of the coaching set-up is phenomenal.”

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan said: “Neil is someone who I am proud to have worked with previously and is a man who I have great respect for”.

“We were disappointed to lose Neil and he is someone who I was very keen to have back at the club”.

Rangers Vs Celtic Saturday 29th March

Rangers V Celtic
29/03/08
Ibrox Park
Kick Off: 12:30

It is now squeaky bum time in the Scottish season with only 10 SPL games left to play and amazingly there are still 3 Old Firm games to be played, the first of which is to be played tomorrow at Ibrox.

Walter Smiths men will be going into Saturdays Old Firm match 3 points in front at the top of the league with a game in hand so a win is a must for Celtic and Gordon Strachan. The home side will no doubt be favourites for the match having won their last 12 consecutive league games and with Gordon Strachan yet to defeat a Rangers side under Walter Smith, The Gers will be confident. Celtic have slipped up in recent times having gone out of the Scottish Cup to the hands of Aberdeen and drawing at Parkhead 0-0 with Dundee United.

The main question is whether Strachan will stick with his bold attitude and field a 4-4-2 formation against what is most likely to be a 4-5-1 Rangers side at home. In the last encounter between the two, Celtic were dominated by the Rangers 5 in the middle of the park so whoever pairs up with Scott Brown in the centre will have to put in a shift.

For Rangers the big question is their choice of striker. Darcheville will be most likely to work the front line on his own in a 4-5-1 system which would leave Kris Boyd benched.

Although there are 3 Old Firm games to play the first is by far the most important for Celtic. Going 6 points behind having played 1 game more would be disaster for Celtic if they are to have any chance of retaining their SPL crown.

Check back for highlights after the game.
