Zenit St Petersburg Vs Bayern Munich Highlights: UEFA Cup Goals

May 1st, 2008

Zenit St Petersburg and Bayern Munich make up the 2nd of tonight’s UEFA Cups semi finals on a night which is set to make football history. Zenit St Petersburg have been on a fantastic run in this years UEFA Cup and have a great chance to knock out the favourites for the UEFA Cup this year, Bayern Munich, after a brilliant 1-1 away draw in the Allianz Arena last week. Bayern are up against it tonight in my opinion and my money will be on Zenit St Petersburg to progress to the final, Russia can be a horrible place to go and get result and it will be hard for Bayern Munich to get on the score sheet more than once. They definitely have the quality in the side to do it with the likes of Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose, Franck Ribery and co but will they be able to break the resilience of the Russians? I guess we’ll just have to wait until tonight to find out. Read On For The Highlights.

Fiorentina Vs Rangers Highlights: UEFA Cup Highlights

May 1st, 2008

Rangers and Fiorentina go head to head tonight at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the 2nd leg of their UEFA Cup semi final tie and the Italian club are all that stands between Rangers and a place in their first European final since 1972. The first leg between the two was a drab affair that ended in a goalless 0-0 draw at Ibrox and Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu criticised Rangers “negative” approach to the game. Rangers manager Smith however, has vowed that his side will play with a much more attacking approach to the game in Florence tonight. Rangers are still chasing a lucrative quadruple and the heavy schedule towrds the end of the season has started to take its toll on the Ibrox side. With an extensive injury list Rangers have started to slip up in recent weeks with a string of bad results most notably against fierce city rivals Celtic but with a UEFA Cup Final place up for grabs The Gers will need no extra motivation ahead of tonight’s game. Fiorentina are currently battling with AC Milan in Serie A for the fourth and final Champions League place so they themselves are having a tough end to the season and will have to try and put the League aside at least for tonight and concentrate on booking their place in the final in Moscow.

Rangers defender David Weir may make the match tonight despite fears his season was over less than a week ago and midfield starlet Steven Davis may also feature tonight after recovering well from a groin strain. Walter smith will also be boosted by the return of captain Barry Ferguson and fellow midfielder Kevin Thomson after suspension.

Fiorentina Coach Cesare Prandelli is expected to name an unchanged side although Marco Donadel could come in and replace Zdravko Kuzmanovic. Highlights Here After The Match.

Bayern Munich Vs Zenit St Petersburg Highlights: UEFA Cup Semi Final

April 24th, 2008

Zenit St Petersburg will be travelling to the Allianz Arena tonight to take on German powerhouse’s Bayern Munich in the fist leg of their UEFA Cup semi final battle. Up until just a few weeks ago the Russian side had never beaten a German team in European competition and now they have the chance of going two in a row against German clubs. However, facing Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena is a very intimidating fixture but this is the semi finals of the competition and all four teams left will fear no-one and fancy their chances of lifting the trophy this year. Bayern Munich Coach Otmar Hitzfield will be leaving the club at the end of the season and he will want to bow out in style and claiming the UEFA Cup trophy would put the icing on the cake, Zenit St Petersburg won’t be expecting any favours from the Germans.

Rangers will welcome Italian side Fiorentina to Ibrox tonight in the first leg of the UEFA Cup semi final clash between the pair. Although Walter Smith’s team will have the benefit of playing at home, Fiorentina will be the favourites amongst most as the Ibrox injury list continues to grow and with suspensions to take place, no fewer than 8 Rangers players are out of the UEFA Cup semi final clash.
