Chelsea vs FC Porto : Preview

Chelsea have a knack for getting off to a good start in the Champions League and when FC Porto come to town this Tuesday they will be hoping for just that.

This won’t be the first time that Chelsea and Porto have met in the group stages so both sides will have a decent understanding of each other. When the sides were in the same group back in the 04/05 season it was Chelsea who came out as victors at Stamford Bridge winning 3-1, a result which Blues fans will snatch at this time around.

An extra bit of spice may be added to this fixture with 5 ex Porto players now a part of the Chelsea squad. Deco, Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira, Henrique Hilário and Jose Bosingwa have all played for Porto.

Remarkably out of the last seven Champions League campaigns that FC Porto have featured in they have progressed from the group stages in six of those but have only managed to take away three points from their opening match on one of those occasions – something which Chelsea can surely take heart from.

It is no doubt that Porto are a quality side and are capable of winning at the Bridge but Chelsea are very strong, especially at home and it will take a massive effort from Porto to overcome them away from home this week. Chelsea for the win.
