Chelsea vs Inter Milan : Preview.

After a disappointing result in Milan three weeks ago Chelsea will welcome Inter to stamford bridge for the second leg in their Champions League last 16 tie. It was Jose’s Inter Milan who drew first blood winning the first leg 2-1 so Chelsea will have to come from behind in the tie if they are to progress into the quarter finals.

Chelsea were facing an uphill struggle pretty much from the start against Inter Milan three weeks ago after Inter striker Diego Milito put the Milan club one up after just three minutes. Having lost the first leg Chelsea cannot afford to make any similar mistakes in the second as Inter Milan may prove too difficult to beat should they get an early advantage.

Despite being behind in the tie Chelsea and their fans will feel somewhat confident of knocking Inter Milan out as they have a very impressive home record and are rarely defeated at stamford bridge especially in the Champions League.

Going into the match it is Chelsea who have the momentum over Inter Milan after they beat West Ham comfortably at the weekend while Inter Milan were beaten 3-1 by Catania. It isn’t something that should be looked into too much however as both Chelsea and Inter will need no extra motivation for this match and it won’t take too much for Inter Milan to pick themselves back up after that result.

The main problem for Chelsea is that of the goalkeeper. With Petr Cech already injured, Chelsea number two Hilario suffered a groin injury last week so Ross Turnbull will take place between the sticks to face Inter Milan this Tuesday.

On the plus side however Ricardo Carvalho has been passed fit for Chelsea and he is expected to start against Inter Milan alongside John Terry in defence.

Inter look like they are set to be without Thiago Motta due to a thigh injury, Marko Arnautovic with the flu and Mario Balotelli has a knee injury so is also a big doubt, although, he will be assessed ahead of kick off to determine whether or not he is fit enough to face Chelsea.

This has to the potential to be a real classic, it has everything. At the centre of attention once again will be Jose Mourinho and it will be interesting to see how the Chelsea fans take to him especially if his Inter Milan team knock out his old club.

This is the scenario that i reckon is going to come about this Tuesday as Inter Milan are a very strong unit under Jose Mourinho and nobody knows Chelsea better than him. I fancy it will be close but i can see Inter just pipping Chelsea into the quarter finals perhaps with a 1-1 draw.
