Germany Vs Poland Highlights: Euro 2008 Highlights

Germany managed to finish as winners against fierce rivals Poland in their first match of Euro 2008. Germany dominated the first half and really should have been more than 1-0 up at half time. After just 4 minutes, Germany wasted a glorious goal scoring opportunity. Michael Ballack slid Miroslav Klose in on goal with only goalkeeper, Artur Boruc, to beat but instead of shooting he elected to pass to a surprised Mario Gomez who managed to get a touch on the ball but pushed it wide of the goal. Germany did eventually score on 20 minutes in a similar fashion to the previous miss on the 4 minute mark when Miroslav Klose once again broke free of the Poland defence and instead of going for glory he laid it on for Lukas Podolski to slot the ball into the gaping net.

It wasn’t until the 72nd minute that Germany grabbed a 2nd goal. Substitute Bastian Schweinsteiger laid on a pass to Miroslav Klose who completely messed up his shot but fortunately the ball came down into the path of Lukas Podolski who volleyed the ball into the top corner and claimed his and Germny’s 2nd goal of the game. Germany looked good in this match today and despite falling away a bit in the 2nd half you could see why they are made the tournament favourites.
