Gretna Football Club are a Scottish football club from Gretna, near Annan, Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. The club were promoted to the Scottish Premier League in the 2006–07 season. Owned by businessman Brooks Mileson, who has poured vast amounts of money into the club, in 5 years Gretna have gone from being a non-league side playing in the Northern Premier League First Division in England to being a 2007–08 premier side in the Scottish Premier League. Whilst they were in the Scottish Division 2, the third tier of Scottish football, they reached the Scottish Cup final where they played Hearts. After extra-time the scores were tied at 1 a piece so it went to penalties where Gretna eventually lost. Their appearance in the final did however earn them a Uefa Cup spot. They were thrown into the UEFA cup in the 2nd qualifying round against Irish side Derry City. Sadly though Gretna succumbed to a heavy 7-2 aggregate defeat against the Irish side.
At this present time Gretna are a side in trouble having recently gone into the dreaded administration and the future is bleak for the club.
