We may only be nine games into the season but already we have a six pointer down at the bottom of the table between Hull and Portsmouth. With just three points from a single win over Wolves to their name Portsmouth are rooted to the bottom of the table while Hull sit third from bottom with just seven points to their name.

Managers from both sides are under pressure to keep their jobs and a defeat for either side here could put the final nail in the coffin so to speak for either manager.

Looking back at this time last year Hull were sitting joint second in the table alongside Chelsea and above Manchester United. Looking at Hull now though you really have to wonder just how that was possible. It has been a while since Hull have had anything to be optimistic about but they will look to this match against Portsmouth as a possible kick start to their season.

Portsmouth simply have to win this match. They cannot afford to allow teams to get too far ahead even at this early stage in the season. A defeat to Hull here will see them go seven points behind the Tigers and a possible five behind West Ham.

There really is no way of predicting the outcome of this match but despite Portsmouth’s precarious position i believe they have slightly a bit more quality than Hull and will come away from the KC with all three points. 1-0 or 2-1 Pompey.
