Liverpool vs Burnley : Preview

The neutrals new favourites Burnley head to Anfield to take on a Liverpool side which has been less than impressive so far this season. Burnley have already beaten the two teams in English football who Liverpool are rivals with the most and Owen Coyles side will look to add Liverpool to their collection of victims as well.

Some say that Liverpool are a different animal when playing at home but it was the home form of Liverpool last season that cost them and Aston Villa have already beaten them there this season so Burnley can take some heart from that.

In truth though it will be very hard for Burnley to get anything from this match and as long as Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard are on song then you can virtually write them off – although Owen Coyle won’t feel that way.

Here is an interesting little fact for all of you… The last time that Liverpool and Burnley met in the league was back in 1976, a game which Liverpool won 2-0 thanks to two goals by David Fairclough. Liverpool ended that season as old First division champions while Burnley were relegated.

Omen? Nah, surely not. At least let’s hope not!
