Liverpool vs Manchester City : Preview.

Last season you would have fancied Liverpool to beat Man City relatively comfortably, however, this season things haven’t gone exactly according to plan for Liverpool and they are finding that they have to prove themselves worthy of being within the “Big Four” bracket all over again.

Ready waiting at the door to replace Liverpool in the top four are Man City, who on paper, have a squad who are more than capable of challenging at the top but they have yet to really prove their credentials as title challengers this season.

Looking at recent form neither Liverpool or Man City have been impressive by any stretch of the imagination. Manchester City have drawn all of their last five league matches and cannot seem to get themselves over the winning line when it matters. Arguably, the problems at Liverpool go way beyond those of Man City.

Liverpool have only managed to win two of their last ten matches in all competitions – a sequence of results that has heaped enormous pressure on the shoulders of manager Rafael Benitez. While the Liverpool manager has been assured that his job is safe their will always be pressure on him from the fans and the media unless his side begin to secure results fast.

Liverpool fans do have reason for optimism ahead of the match with Man City this weekend however with the welcome of return of Steven Gerrard to the starting line up. The international break couldn’t have came at a better time for the Liverpool captain as he got some much needed rest to nurse his groin injury – he will be a huge boost for the Reds! Jamie Carragher is also expected to return o the Liverpool starting eleven after seeing out his suspension.

Equally as important for Man City fans will be the news that Gareth Barry is expected to face Liverpool after recovering from a slight niggle he picked up on England duty. However, despite Robinho being close to full fitness it still remains doubtful whether he will be available for selection or not.
