Manchester United vs Birmingham : Preview

Manchester United will begin the defence of their title against newly promoted Birmingham at Old Trafford. Man Utd have some injury concerns ahead of their Premier League opener with Hargreaves, Obertan, Rafael, van der Sar and Vidic all out. There are also doubts over the fitness of Evans, Foster and Neville.

Man Utd will also look to prove the critics wrong who say that the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez is too big too fill. It will be interesting too see how big a part Michael Owen plays in Sir Alex’ opening day plans.

Birmingham look set to give Roger Johnson his debut at the back against Manchester United – talk about being thrown in at the deep end.

Birmingham haven’t beaten Man Utd in 31 years so it doesn’t bode well for Birmingham and Alex McLeish as the Blues gaffer comes up against his old mentor.
