Manchester City vs Chelsea : Preview.

Manchester City face a true test of their top four ambitions as they take on Chelsea this weekend in the Premier League. After a dismal run of seven consecutive league draws Man City will have to up their performance against Chelsea who are high on confidence sitting proudly at the top of the table.

At the present time it is hard to see Chelsea faltering against anyone in the league let alone a side who have massively under achieved so far this season. After a good result during the week against Arsenal however Manchester City may feel that this is the perfect time for them to face Chelsea, especially after Carlo Ancelotti’s side were dumped out of the Carling Cup by Blackburn.

It is well worth noting however that Man City faced pretty much the Arsenal youth team during the week while Chelsea gave the majority of their first team a rest and the Blues will revert back to their first choice eleven for the trip to Manchester.

Looking at the recent history between Man City and Chelsea it is the London club who stand out as massive favourites having recorded eight victories on the trot against City, ten wins in their last twelve trips to Manchester City and have collected an amazing twelve clean sheets from their last fourteen league encounters.

There may be a return to the Man City starting eleven for Robinho who has been declared fit to face Chelsea although Mark Hughes may want to stick with the same eleven that defeated Arsenal. However Craig Bellamy and Shaun Wright Phillips have injury concerns so if Robinho is to return then it may be in place of one of those two.

The only fresh injury concern for Chelsea is that of Salomon Kalou who picked up a knock against Blackburn however he was unlikely to face Man City in the first place.

Taking into consideration the disappointing run that Manchester City have been on of late in the league and with Chelsea expected to field a full strength side after resting players during the week, it is hard to see beyond Chelsea taking all three points here. If Man City are to get anything from this game then they will have to tighten it up at the back as the on fire Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka do not require second chances to put the ball in the back of the net.
