Manchester United vs Portsmouth : Preview.

Possibly the two most cash-strapped clubs in England will face each other this Saturday in a match which is vitally important for both Man Utd and Portsmouth although for entirely different reasons. At the top end of the table Man Utd are pushing for as many points as possible as they attempt to go top of the league whereas Portsmouth are facing a desperate fight for survival and every point at this stage is like gold dust.

I really feel for the Portsmouth fans. It is a never-ending shambles down at Fratton Park and for a club who has seen four different owners during a season which has only just passed the halfway stage i’m actually surprised they are not doing worse on the pitch than they actually are. I mean, how can all this nonsense not affect results? It would be like going up against David Haye and trying to dodge ‘Haymakers’ for 12 rounds with one hand tied behind your back!

It doesn’t get any better for Portsmouth this week either with a trip to Old Trafford to face Man Utd who are suddenly on a rampage led by arguably the best player in the world right now in terms of form. Wayne Rooney has been nothing short of breathtaking recently and Wayne will smell blood when Avram Grant leads his Portsmouth team north this week.

Portsmouth have won just one of their last 25 premier league matches away from home and i don’t imagine anyone will be betting on them ending that woeful run this week against Manchester United. With a dire shortage of goals in the Portsmouth locker simply scoring against Man Utd will be a massive achievement with United conceding just one goal in their last 7 premier league matches at Old Trafford.

Man Utd are likely to welcome back Nimanja Vidic from injury however Rio Ferdinand will be missing as he serves the 2nd of his four match ban.

Portsmouth will sorely miss Michael Brown and Papa Bouba Diop but they may give debuts to Ricardo Rocha and Quincy Owusu-Abeyie who signed on loan during the January transfer window.

I’m not going to beat around the bush here. Portsmouth are going to get thumped and i fancy a heavy Man Utd win. 4/5 nil i’m going for.
