Roy Keane quits as Sunderland manager

Roy Keane has resigned as Sunderland boss today after being in charge for 27 months.
Roy Keane will leave his position as Sunderland manager with immediate effect, leaving the club sitting 18th in the Premeirship table.
Keane took charge of Sunderland back in 2006, a season which saw him take Sunderland from the basement of the Championship and into the dizzy heights of the Premiership. But it seems after losing 5 games out of his last 6 in his second season in the English top flight he has decided enough is enough and has moved on. Which i would say is the right decision.
Since Sunderland’s promotion to the Premiership, Roy Keane has spent £70M on players, and among those bought it is hard to see any that are of any real quality. Kenwyne Jones and Kieran Richardson, at a push, may be the only real good things to have come out of that £70M.
To be honest i am surprised the Sunderland board hasn’t had anything to say about the huge sums that he has squandered, but, perhaps £70M is peanuts to a club like Sunderland? No, i dont’t think so either. 70 million is not peanuts for ANY club.
I don’t think there is any questioning that what Roy achieved in guiding Sunderland back into the Premiership and keeping them there the following season was a success but it really does feel like it is the right time for Roy to go.
One thing that Sunderland have to do now is bring in a manager who has experience working in the top flight and understands the transfer market because ultimately it was Roy Keane’s inexperience as a manager that has led to the precarious position that Sunderland find themselves in now.
