Saint Mirren Football Club or more simply St Mirren are a Scottish professional football club based in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. St. Mirren are currently playing in the Scottish Premier League after being promoted from the First Division in 2005-06. They are managed by former player Gus McPherson.

The football club was founded in 1877 when members of the local cricket club decided to convert to football. Since 1894, St Mirren have played their home games at St Mirren Park. St Mirren Park is the official name for the stadium but it is more commonly known as Love Street. St. Mirren have a long-standing and fierce rivalry with Greenock Morton, who play the Saints every year in the Renfrewshire Cup. St. Mirren have won the Scottish Cup three times, 1926, 1959 and 1987 and have played four times in European competition, UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup 1987-1988 and the UEFA Cup 1980-1981, 1983-1984 and 1985-1986.

I was asked the other day where the name St Mirren came from. As we have a saint miren in paisley it is a different spelling as the team. Anyone know?

Hi Angela,

The club is actually named after Saint Mirin, the patron saint of Paisley.
