West Ham vs Burnley : Preview.

West Ham will be hoping they have what it takes to see off Burnley this weekend at Upton Park and make a start towards pushing themselves away from the relegation zone. There are no such worries for Burnley who are currently mid table and a win against West Ham here could propel them into the top half of the league.

It is fair to say that Burnley have made a fantastic start to Premier League life but they won’t want to take their foot of the gas and risk sliding down the table. Owen Coyles side secured their first away point at Man City a couple of weeks ago and he will want his players do go out and prove that they can win away from home. A trip away to West Ham is never easy but Burnley have every reason to be confident of securing three points here.

For West Ham they simply want a win to distance themselves from the relegation contenders. The Hammers are currently outside the bottom three but only on goal difference so a win for Zola’s men would be a massive boost of confidence.

A problem that both West Ham and Burnley have faced this term is an alarming rate of shipping goals. Burnley have been particularly bad away from home whereas West Ham have conceded more at home than away this season so the stats tell us that there should be goals in this fixture.

With no injury worries for Burnley they are expected to field the same starting line up for the fifth game in a row. The only Burnley casualties are long-term absentees Jay Rodriguez, Chris McCann and Martin Paterson who are no closer to a return.

Bad news for West Ham will be the absence of Matthew Upson at centre half who suffered a hamstring injury in training although Mr Injury himself, Kieron Dyer, could feature for West Ham after bagging two goals for the reserve side during the week. Alessandro Diamanti and James Tomkins may also play a part for the Hammers.
