West Ham vs Manchester United : Preview.

After turning to youth for their midweek Carling Cup tie Manchester United will make a host of changes for their trip to West Ham this weekend. With ground to make up at he top Man Utd can’t afford any slip ups so West Ham can expect to see a full strength senior Manchester United side this Saturday.

Trips to West Ham haven’t gone exactly according to plan for Man Utd in recent times with West Ham defeating United twice in their last three matches at Upton Park. However with West Ham languishing near the bottom of the table Manchester United will be confident of taking all three points here.

The biggest problem for West Ham recently has been the hemorrhaging of goals. This season there have been more goals scored at Upton Park than at any other ground. That is a record you do not want hold ahead of a clash with Man Utd and with the quality that United have we may well see West Ham pay the price if they continue defend in the same manner for another week.

If facing Manchester United wasn’t tough enough already then just to make sure West ham will have to face them without Carlton Cole in attack. The in form striker has been ruled out with a knee injury so that may well make the Man Utd defenders sleep better tonight. Matthew Upson is also struggling with injury as is Diamanti – both will face late fitness tests.

Fans of Man Utd will be glad to see the return of Edwin van der Sar who looks set to return in goal after recovering from injury although John O’Shea, Jonny Evans and Fabio are all set to miss out. Another key absentee for Manchester United is Rio Ferdinand who is still some way off a return to first team football, sometime around Christmas is his target for a return.

Both sides have injury problems for this tie but i doubt those will have any say in the outcome of this match. I can’t see West Ham getting anything here against Man Utd especially with Carlton Cole missing. The constant leaking of goals at home doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon and i don’t fancy it to stop against Manchester United of all teams.
