Wolves and Aston Villa go into this match with contrasting recent form records. At the moment Aston Villa are flying high on confidence after beating Chelsea last weekend whereas Wolves have been struggling of late taking just one win from their last five games.

After beating Fulham a month ago Wolves have since lost to bottom club Portsmouth and were humped 5-2 by Sunderland so it doesn’t bode well for the Wolves fans ahead of the derby match with Aston Villa this weekend.

In contrast Aston Villa have managed to beat Chelsea and Liverpool already this season and took a point off Man City at the beginning of the month. Results which have propelled them to 6th in the league just six points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

Looking at the last twelve meetings between Wolves and Aston Villa it is Villa who come out as top dogs with an unbeaten record against their Midlands rivals which stretches back to March 1980 when Wolves beat them 3-1. That being said, All records are there to be broken and that is exactly the attitude that Wolves should be taking into the game this weekend.

Some good news for Wolves is the return of Chris Iwelumo from injury. The striker could make his first appearance of the season at Villa park this Saturday although giant striker Stefan Maierhofer will be suspended after being sent off against Everton last week.

Aston Villa have no new injuries or suspensions and are fully expected to field the same side that turned over Chelsea last week.
